“Hold'em Poker For Advanced Players” is not a book, but the first ever book that has ever talked about poker, whose first edition dates back to 1988: the author is, of course, is David Sklansky, assisted in some sections by Mason Malmuth. The question may sound, is legitimate: it makes sense to buy a poker book thought over twenty years ago, with all the material written by the young phenomena of the online poker available? We believe so: you just need to know exactly what it is.The book, first of all, it deals with Limit Hold'em, the variant that at the time it was certainly more common and that has now been bypassed by the No Limit. In this variation, as is well known, the importance of mathematics, and statistics is even more pronounced: it becomes even more obvious to understand in different situations what is the right choice and which is the wrong, while in the No Limit sometimes as we know there are nuances, divergent opinions, even among the players equally prepared. This, however, does not make it a reading useless, especially for beginners. It is a book now in its ninth edition, published in the original language in 2007, and to which the authors have added a good 100 pages in what has been called the “21st Century Edition”.David Sklansky, although it belongs to the old school, knows very well the world that revolves around online poker, and how this has radically changed the way of playing Texas Hold'em.Whole chapters have been added on topics which have become indispensable, such as, for example, the game short-handed, or how to behave in games that are loose and aggressive, or other fundamental concepts such as inducing the bluff rather than the semibluff, and so on.There are also words to analyze how to behave in specific contexts, such as how to play the flop pairati or schedule a hand with marginal cards.Evidently, “Hold'em Poker For Advanced Players” is the book of poker, by definition, for those who practice it are still in the Limit Hold'em. For those who practice instead of the No Limit Hold'em, only to read it with different eyes, to treat it not so much as a school manual, but rather as a text that puts to the test our ability and logical reflection on the game.Considering that everything is started from here, over twenty years ago, never having read the first book ever written on poker would be a serious forgetfulness, despite the gap in the meantime has naturally evolved. it is Not easy to learn how to play Texas Hold ‘em. To become an expert you must be able to balance many concepts, some of which sometimes contradict each other. In 1988, appeared the first edition of this text. The strategies and concepts explained mainly in reference to the game limit, but the reasoning that will be required to understand the dynamics of the game will bring undeniable advantages to those who prefer to try out the no-limit hold ‘em. Many of the ideas, which were then known only to a small and selected group of players, and became available for anyone ambisse to become an expert, and the explosion of texas hold'em began in great style. We are now in a new century, and the authors have enhanced the text with the addition of over a hundred pages of brand new material, including a large section on matches “loose” and an equally large section on the game “short-hand”. Anyone who studies this text, is well disciplined and knows how to acquire the right experience, it should become a winning player. Some of the other ideas discussed in this new edition for the 21st century affect the way people play the first two cards, semi-bluffing, the free card, inducing the bluff, play, projects, point, play when the flop is turned a couple, playing garbage hands, episodes of despair, to play in games that are wild, reading hands, psychology, and much more.
